Oxfordshire league cup semi finals

This year’s League Cup semi-finals at South Oxford saw four teams from Division 1 battle it out for a place in the final.

Furthest from the clubhouse it was an all west Oxfordshire affair, as Witney Mills came up against close rivals, and green sharers, West Witney.  Mills were quickest out of the block, racing to a 10 shot lead after 5 ends. However, after 10 ends it was West Witney in the ascendency, recovering to lead by 36-28.  Despite the game finishing close on 3 of the 4 rinks, Mills were unable to contain Shane Cooper’s rink, who ended up with an 18 shot victory, helping West book a place in the final for the first time since 2013

In the other semi-final, Division 1 Champions Headington A were up against Banbury Central A, opponents on the last day of the League season. Will Campion’s four gave Central an early boost, picking up 10 shots with no reply in the first 4 ends. However Jason King’s rink then got hold of the mat and won 12 ends on a row to lead 24-10.  Only Keith McNeil’s rink were able to pick up a consolation win for Central, as Headington came out on top by 71-53.

The final of the League Cup between West Witney and Headington A takes place on Thursday, 5th September, under the floodlights at Kidlington Bowls Club.
