Oxon beat Sussex in Middleton Cup

Oxfordshire travelled to the south coast on Saturday to play Sussex in their first Middleton Cup game of the 2019 season. With an earlier start than usual at 12 noon Oxfordshire enjoyed a relaxed trip to Worthing Pavilion with 4 players new to the Middleton Scene. All settled to the task early and after 5 ends had established a 5 shot lead. The Banbury Borough quartet skipped by A J Docherty led the wat with a convincing all round performance.  With the rinks of Ray Gaskins Paul Sharman and David Leighfield finishing strongly and the four of Chris Gilkes struggling to get the better of their opponents interested focused on the outcome of Baden Sparkes rink for the final overall score. With a 2 shot lead going into the last end a loss of shots ensured the rink was shared.

With Hampshire defeating Isle of Wight by 20 points to 2, Oxfordshire were in a strong position in second place for the match against them on 15th June.
