An End Too Far

Condolences and congratulations to Headington’s Ian Henwood and Mark Charlett on reaching the Semi-finals of the Bowls England Men’s National Pairs Championship.

After earlier wins against Dorset 21-12 in round one and a 21-18 in round two against Devon, Gloucester provided a closer game in the last sixteen before losing to the Headington pair 15-16.

The quarter final against Cambridgeshire saw the Oxford lads back in their previous routine moving into the semi-finals on the back of a 23-13 victory.

Wednesday mornings semi-final saw them up against a Somerset pairing from the Watchet Bowling Club, which for those keeping up to date on the Bowls England live scoring was a close encounter with each pair creeping ahead before seeing their opponents pull back and then move ahead. After 21 ends, like the second semi-final, the teams could not be separated at 18 shots each. Unfortunately for the Oxfordshire lads the final was not to be as the Watchet bowlers took the extra end to move into the final, which they ultimately won against the West End BC pairing from Surrey.
