Banbury Borough Four shine in HCBA Championships

The Banbury Borough rink of Keith Holloway, Jamie Wilkinson, Paul Hilton and George Schwab brought Sunday’s HCBA Championships at the South Oxford BC to a close in the most dramatic way, with the skips from both teams playing the perfect shot with their last wood of the game.
With the Borough boys having taken 12 of the first 17 ends and looking comfortable with a 16-10 lead, six shots from the next three ends saw their Buckinghamshire opponents from Aylesbury Town BC draw level going into the final end.
All the other finals had been decided and everyone watched as the Oxfordshire four held shot with each skip having one wood left. The Buckinghamshire skip, Keith Stratful played his last wood, resting out the shot wood to hold two.
Schwab delivered his wood, the shouts from his team-mates indicated a result was on, and suddenly the jack was moved, a couple of ricochets and then it finally stopped. One to Oxfordshire, the title was theirs.

Middlesex were the major winners on the day with Ron Edgar, Phil Shepherd and David Pitt (Masonians) taking the Triples, Chris Harris & Tony Waller (Ladygate) the Pairs and Attilio Ciampini (Uxbridge) the Singles,

Fourteen year old Ajay Morphett (Spartan) Sussex completed the finals, winning the Under 25 singles against Oxfordshire’s Sam Watts.

The programme and results are available on the HCBA website.
