March, 2020:

Joe Wylie

News has  reached us from the South East of the County of the passing of Joe Wylie  on March 22nd.

He was a member of the Stuarts club in Henley and achieved County success, winning the Fours in 2003.

Joe was a particularly good lead and obviously produced the goods for his rink partners, Roger Pitcher, Chris Barrett and Ryan Buckett.

Following the closing of the Stuarts club, he joined the Shiplake Village club in 2006 before moving to the Henley-on-Thames club.

County records show that he ended his County competitive bowls in 2012 in the Triples and that he had played 47 times for the Oxfordshire.

Our condolences go to his family

Jim Lucas

It is with deep sadness that I have to inform you of the very sad passing of Jim Lucas at the JR Hospital, due to Chronic Pneumonia brought on by Covid-19.

The family have requested NOT to contact his wife Lynne at this very sad time, but to direct any enquiries to his son Gary on (07837 043403)

Jim was a member and supporter of both the Bloxham and Banbury Borough clubs and enjoyed County success with his son Gary and Calvin Carpenter in the 1997 Triples having won the Fours title the previous year with the addition of Martin Cato to their trio.

He was a regular player in the midweek county fixtures and also did his stint for the county for a number of years as a member of the GPC.

He will be sadly missed by many.

Our heartfelt sympathies go to his family.

Richard ‘Dick’ Claridge

The sad news has reached us of the death of Richard ‘Dick’ Claridge.

Having bowled for many years at West Oxford BC, in more recent times he was a member of the South Oxford club.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his wife Pauline and son Shaun.
