VOTING OPEN TO DETERMINE 2018 WOMEN BOWLERS OF THE YEAR

Bowls England has today opened the voting to determine the 2018 Woman Bowler of the Year and Young Woman Bowler of the Year Award, sponsored by Taylor Bowls and Bowls International respectively.

In an exciting new format, a shortlist for each award has been compiled, with a public vote then taking place to crown the respective winners.

Bowls England Chief Executive Tony Allcock MBE said “Bowls England is delighted to announce that the Bowlers of the Year will be determined by a public vote for the first time.

“We are pleased that Taylor Bowls and Bowls International continue to sponsor these highly respected and prestigious awards and we thank them for their support.”

Sian Honnor, editor of Bowls International, said: “We thought it would be fitting moving forward for bowlers themselves to vote for who they believe to be the players of the year. It is important to recognise excellent achievement and the shortlisted players are those that stood out in a strong field.

“Congratulations to all those featured and I look forward to announcing the winners at the Bowls England Women’s Annual Dinner and Presentation of Prizes which is always a highlight of the bowling calendar and a chance to celebrate the season in style.”

The sad news has reached us today that Jim Warland, for many years a stalwart of Pressed Steel, Rover and The Oxford Bowls Club and for the last two years a member of Watlington Bowls Club, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning in hospital.

In addition to all the work he did at club level, he was also a long time Executive member of the English Indoor Bowling Association.
