U25 Four Counties Cup cancelled

‘The Under 25s Four Counties Cup scheduled for 6th September at South Oxford BC is cancelled due to Bucks and Middx being unable to raise teams. We are looking to reschedule the event for May 2016’.

HCL: Oxon lose final game

Oxfordshire travelled to Bletchley Town BC on Saturday 29th August to play Buckinghamshire in the final match in the Home Counties league.

The match started with both sides finding their way and Oxfordshire had a 1 shot lead after 5 ends. From thereon Buckinghamshire slowly took control of the match dominating three rinks and narrowly winning a fourth rink.

Jason King’s rink were 5 shots down after 14 ends but then took then took the next 6 ends and despite losing a single on the last end they won by 4.

Chris Earl’s four struggled throughout and lost by 16.

After a slow start Melvin Brain’s four recovered from 8-2 down after 8 ends to win comfortably by 12 shots.

Ian Whelpton’s rink were leading by 10 shots after 15 ends but Bucks took 5 of the last 6 ends to win by 1.

Alan Ley’s rink were only 3 shots down after 15 ends but also lost 5 of the last 6 to lose by 13 shots.

Kevin Alder’s four were in contention on most ends but local knowledge of an end rink by the Bucks skip proved an advantage to the home side who won by 18 shots.

Oxfordshire 100 shots 4 points Buckinghamshire 132 shots 18 points.

Oxfordshire finished the league program with a single win and 4040 points to finish in 6th place, finishing ahead of Berkshire.

Home Counties Championship Finals

This years HCBA Championship Finals are being played at South Oxford BC on Sunday September 13th, starting at 10.00a.m. and finishing around 5.00p.m.

This year’s HCBA Chairman is John O’Shea and Oxfordshire will be represented on the green by Sam Watts (Watlington) in the Under 25 singles, Mark Sykes (Banbury Borough) in the Singles and Keith Holloway, Jamie Wilkinson, George Schwab and Richard Redford in the Fours.

Please come and give your support to both John and the Oxfordshire representatives.

Oxon Ladies fall at final hurdle

Bowls Oxfordshire Ladies last game of the season was a middle England league game at Irchester BC at Cambridgeshire. Unfortunately Oxfordshire won on 3 rinks and lost on 3, losing the game by 2 shots.

Oxon 113, 6 points;
Cambridgeshire 115, 11 points.
