Oxon ladies beat IOW in the Walker Cup

Bowls Oxfordshire Ladies beat Bowls Isle of Wight in the Walker Cup (National 2 x 4’s) by only 2 shots in the game played at Banister Park Bowls Club today.

Caroline Campion’s rink of Margaret Bullock, Pat Ostler and Donna Knight were involved in a close battle all the way through the game and were level at 18 ends but just lost out by 2 shots in the end. Katherine Hawes along with Carole Galletly, Wendy Cross and Jeanette Berry also had a close battle early on but managed to pull away in the end to win by 4 shots, giving Oxfordshire a 2 point victory.

Oxfordshire will now play in the regional finals at Sutton BC, Surrey on Sunday 13th July.

Oxon hold IOW to draw in John’s Trophy

Bowls Oxfordshire Ladies held Bowls Isle of Wight to a draw in the John’s Trophy at Bannister Park BC yesterday. The game was very tight all the way through across the board with Oxfordshire winning on two rinks. The highest winning rink came from Donna Knight’s rink of Margaret Bullock, Jan Lovegrove and Sue Gokgor. The only other winning rink came from Carol Penson’s rink of Gill Hunt, Mavis Hale and Carole Gaskins. This gave Oxfordshire 9 points and Isle of Wight 13 points but will mean that with one game to go Oxfordshire will not qualify for the quarter finals.

Ladies unbadged singles

The Gwen Steele unbadged singles (3 woods, 21 ends) will be played on Sunday 20th July at Oxford City & County 9:30 for 10am start.

This competition is open to ALL lady bowlers who have NOT received their County Blazer Badge (except 3 times winners not eligible).

The finalists are eligible to play for the County and may put their names down for selection.

Blay Benevolent Cup and Plate

The Blay Benevolent Cup and Plate (2 wood drawn pairs, 15 ends) will be played on Saturday 19th July 9:30 for 10am start at Banbury Chestnuts BC. £2.50 per competitor.

This competition is open to ALL lady bowlers affiliated to
Bowls Oxfordshire Ladies.

There will be a ‘Plate’ competition with the first round losers playing for a trophy. All those who enter are thus ensured of at least TWO games. The format will be dependent on the number of entries.

This competition raises money for the Oxfordshire Benevolent Fund so Raffle Prizes and/or donations from Clubs and individuals would be much appreciated.

Bowls Oxfordshire ladies lost to Middlesex in a county game played at Banbury Chestnuts on Wednesday 18th June.
