Leamington Update – Fours, 2 Wood and Pairs

Oxford City & County’s Myra Lewis, Donna Knight, Gail Gilkes and Katherine Hawes won their first round against a Doreset four skipped by Penny Cresswell 23 – 9 before losing out 21 – 9 to the runner’s Up from Warwickshire. Banbury Central’s Carole Galletly, Helen Young, Stella Amos and Caroline Campion went out 21-14 to last year’s National Champions skipped by Amy Gowshall in the first round.

Banbury Central’s Mo Cox reached the last 16 in the Women’s National Two Wood Singles Championship at Leamington before going out 17-12 to Felixstowe & Suffolk’s Katherine Rednall. Cox had beaten Taunton Deane’s Kirsty Hembrow 15-11 in the first round, before defeating Purton’s Alison Fail 17-11 in round two. Oxford City & County’s Jacky Gray knocked out Bolton’s Margaret Gill 15-10 in the preliminary round, but then fell 14-9 to Cheryl Colby (Burghfield, Berkshire).

The pairs has reached the last 16 stages with Katherine Hawes and Donna Knight (Oxford City and County) and Carole Galletly and Caroline Campion (Banbury Central) still in contention. The Banbury Central pair beat Derbyshire’s Jean Baker in the opening round 23 – 11 and then went on to beat a team from Bedfordshire 25 – 19. The Oxford City Pair beat a Nottinghamshire pair 22 – 19 and then Suffolk’s Sally Butcher 31 – 14. Both teams play again tomorrow morning at 9am.
