Vice Presidents bring their Golden Anniversary season to a close

The Vice Presidents brought their Golden Anniversary season to a close with two charity games against the Home Counties Bowls Association and Friends of English Bowling. Both games, which were in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, were played on the Kidlington BC green on September 12th & 19th respectively. In the HCBA game, rinks from Berks, Bucks, Kent, Middlesex and Oxfordshire took three of the five rinks to record a 105-86 scoreline, followed a week later by the FoEB team, with players from as far away as Diss in Norfolk, Essex, Sussex and Somerset, sharing the rinks 3-3 and returning home with a 132-96 win.

October 13th see’s the start of the VP’s limited Indoor season, with a match against Buckinghamshire VP’s followed by South Warwickshire BA on the 20th, both matches being played at Oxford City & County IBC.

Membership of the Association is open to all bowlers affiliated to the OBA or the OIBA and a membership application can be printed off from the Membership part of the Vice Presidents section on this website.

VP’s back to their winning ways

After last weeks loss against South Warwickshire BA in a game cut short by bad weather, the VP’s having a very depleted team due to a wide variety of reasons plus having to borrow a club rink, they returned to their winning ways on Sunday, with a 113 – 87 scoreline against Swindon and District B.A. at Wroughton BC.

Paul McGrath, Bill Allin, Mike Collison and skip Chris Cox led the way with a 32-15 win with the County’s other two wins provided by John Dunne, John Stephens, Alan Peters and Ian Whelpton 27-13 and Trevor Mold, David Wotherspoon, Melvin Brain and Chairman John O’Shea 22-15.

Charles Blackmore, Eddie Dorling, Alan Rowe and Mike Andrew won four of their last five ends, but just missed out with a 19-20 scoreline. A run of 6 losing ends at the start of the second half of the game was the difference in the 13-24 defeat for Bill Pointer, John Franks, Frank Savari and Stan Ponting.

Vice president’s impressive run of wins

The Vice President’s team found the Brackley & District green to their liking last Sunday when they turned the Northamptonshire Vice Presidents over on all five rinks.

After ten ends across the rinks the Oxfordshire ‘lads’ were only up on one rink with two others all square and a scoreline of 42-39 in Oxfordshire’s favour.

The improving weather in the second half of the match saw the sun shine on the Oxfordshire rinks, who took 36 of the remaining 55 ends to add another success to their impressive first half of this season, ending the game 118-72 winners.
